The Quantity Surveyor (QS) Engineer plays a critical role in managing all aspects of the cost management process for construction projects. This includes preparing budgets, cost estimates, and bills of quantities, as well as monitoring project costs and ensuring value for money without compromising quality. The QS Engineer will collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients to ensure projects are completed within budget and to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and budgets for construction projects based on architectural and engineering designs.
- Develop bills of quantities (BOQ) and scope of work documentation.
- Monitor project expenditures and ensure adherence to the budget.
- Evaluate and recommend cost-saving measures without impacting project quality.
- Assist in preparing tender documents and evaluating contractor bids.
- Collaborate with procurement teams to source materials and services at optimal costs.
- Review contracts and ensure compliance with terms and conditions.
- Address any cost variations or changes to the project scope during construction.
- Conduct on-site inspections to assess work progress and validate claims from contractors.
- Prepare interim payment certificates and final accounts for completed works.
- Identify potential financial risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Provide regular cost reports and forecasts to stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in construction project cost management.
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts, BOQs, and cost estimation techniques.
- Proficiency in software like AutoCAD, MS Excel, and QS tools
- Familiarity with construction standards and regulations.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
